Communities in Bloom History

Communities in Bloom is a National volunteer based, not for profit organization, committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, beautification and improving quality of life through community participation. The City of Brandon is a member of the National Communities in Bloom initiative.

Established with the guidance of Britain in Bloom, Tidy Towns of Ireland and Villes et Villages Fleuris de France, Communities in Bloom held its first edition in 1995 and twenty-nine participating municipalities were honored at the first awards ceremonies on Parliament Hill. The program now includes more than five hundred communities across the country. An international challenge involving communities from the United States, Japan, and several European countries allows participants to compete internationally. When Communities in Bloom began in 1995, Brandon was one of the twenty-nine participating municipalities.

The City of Brandon has recognized numerous benefits from participating in the Communities in Bloom program including:
